Lets get started!!
Your Instructor
Hello, My name is Rebecca Faustin, I am honored to be a part of your sewing journey!! My goal is to teach you, all that I can about Fashion Design/product Development.
A little bit about me.
I have been sewing for about 20 years, it all started when I was about 7 years of age watching my mother make dresses and wedding gowns. She would chase me away from the sewing machine at that age, but the minute she would get up from her sewing chair, I thought it was my opportunity to create a couple stitches on the machine, sewing any remnants, or the ribbons in my hair from the elegant bows she took her time to place in perfect proportion. I would always get in trouble, but the few stitches, and the ability to press the foot pedal was always worth it. My mother has long passed away, so I will never know what her thoughts would have been on my career choice as a Fashion Designer.
After graduating High school, I was unable to find a college near me that had the FD degree, so I went to a trade school, and sewed little projects on my off time. I got married soon after graduation and moved to VA from FL with my husband, Obtained an Associates degree and somehow manage to land an internship with a local designer. I returned to FL, after a few years from nostalgia, and wanting to be closer to family.
By then, I had completed my Associates degree and was a single mother. Though I knew my internship was a dead end, I missed it dearly, being back in Florida felt foreign, so I did what I've always done, find comfort in my passion. SEW. SEW. SEW. One day, watching a youtube video, I decided to see what school was near by because I didn't want to remain where I was, long and behold: a Private institution that provided a Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design. I signed up right away. I still have no recollection of the time spent during those 4 years of my life- Working full time, going to school full time, raising a little munchkin and is not a small task. The juggling act often left me to 1 hr of sleep (on a good day), as I often had assignments, projects and homework that required way more time that I had to spare. nonetheless, I knew I signed up for it, I didn't complain. I didn't look ahead to see all the classes that were to come- simply took it day by day until I graduated with a miraculous 3.5 GPA.
It's only just begun
Unable to move out of state for a job in my career, I decided to take matters into my own hands and started making and selling my creations, doing alterations, taking on any project that is offered to me locally as a freelancer, and teaching others how to sew-where I discovered my passion for teaching-have been teaching ever since.
My goal is to teach you the fundamentals of fashion design, pattern techniques (drafting and draping) and the basics of product development. With time and consistency towards your skill, I believe that anything is achievable.
It is an honor to be a part of your sewing journey, as you are a part of mine.
